AFCON 2021 qualifiers: Black Stars victory was well deserved, Kudos to the team – Akufo-Addo
President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has showered praises on the Black Stars and the entire management team after what he describes as a well-deserving victory against South Africans.
“Great performance by the Black Stars this evening, a thoroughly deserved victory against South Africa. Very proud of the players, technical and management teams. Next stop, Sao Tome and Principle. Kudos also to the Black Meteors, ” the President’s tweet cited by The Ghana Report read.
Ghana started its 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign in great fashion as they beat South Africa 2-0 Thursday night at the Cape Coast Stadium.
A goal in each half from Thomas Partey and debutant Kudos Mohammed powered Black Stars to victory.
The team dominated possession, goal-scoring opportunities and overall picked up the three points which put them second in Group C behind leaders Sudan, who beat Sao Tome and Principe 4-0 in Khartoum on Wednesday night.
The President appears to be impressed with the performance and professional conduct of the players, technical and management teams.
Former GFA Vice-President Fred Pappoe in a similar tweet noted “Congratulations to our gallant Black Stars for a splendid display. Keep the focus no complacency. Wonderful show by the Meteors guys just finish hard with the one most important victory in the semis. Blessings. ”
Ghana’s next assignment is set to face Sao Tome and Principe on Monday.
The President also sent his well wishes to the U-23 national team, the Black Meteors who are playing at the Al Salam Stadium in Cairo, Egypt.
