Adomako Kissi accuses GoldBod of fueling galamsey

Former Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom, Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, has accused the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) of aiding illegal mining, alleging that the board buys gold indiscriminately from both legal and illegal sources.

In an interview on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, Dr. Adomako claimed that GoldBod, chaired by Sammy Gyamfi, has become “complicit” in galamsey.

“What GoldBod has is a mixture of gold from small-scale and illegal mining. He (Sammy Gyamfi) is clueless about where the gold is coming from. He is grabbing from whichever criminal brings him gold. That is the reality,” the former MP alleged.

Dr. Adomako argued that, just as the law does not permit anyone to buy stolen property without consequence, GoldBod cannot escape responsibility for purchasing gold from illegal miners.

“As it stands now, if you buy a machine from a thief, the police can still arrest you. The law won’t allow you to go scot-free. In the same way, GoldBod is complicit in the galamsey menace, and I can say on authority that they are compromised,” he stressed.

He further challenged the board to adopt stricter measures to trace the origin of the gold they buy.

“Even potatoes in Europe can be tracked to the farm where they are produced. Why can’t we track our gold to the mining site? I demand that GoldBod put in place a system to identify the source of every ounce of gold they purchase,” Dr. Adomako said.

GoldBod, established under Act 1140 in 2025, is mandated to oversee, regulate, and engage in the buying, selling, refining, exporting, and other activities related to gold and precious minerals in Ghana.
