Adom-Otchere takes on Asiedu Nketia for mocking President’s accent
Host of Good Evening Ghana on Metro TV, Paul Adom-Otchere, has criticized the National Democratic Congress General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia for deliberately making a spectacle of President Akufo-Addo over what he claimed as a ‘locally acquired accent’.
According to the Host of Good Evening Ghana, the General Secretary spoke in an irresponsible manner not worthy of emulation by the Ghanaian youth.
His comment comes after the NDC General Secretary criticised the President over his treatment of issues relating to corruption in his government.
“Do you think flowery speeches and empty rhetoric delivered in an acquired accent is what convinces people that corruption is being fought?” the Chief Scribe of the NDC asked rather sarcastically at a media briefing on Tuesday.
But reacting to Mr. Asiedu Nketia’s comments on his show, Paul Adom-Otchere said ‘The General’, as he is often referred to, had hit below the belt.
“This is bad. This is unprofessional and it is unbecoming for the major opposition General Secretary to look at the President and say he is speaking in an acquired accent. This is a deliberate attempt to draw laughter and ridicule for the President of the Republic,” Paul said in the opinion piece on the show.
“This President has been speaking like this since 1979, since we grew up. This is how President Akufo-Addo speaks since. Everyone knows that about him and you want to ridicule him and say he spoke in an acquired accent, ” Adom Otchere continued.
Adom Otchere also used the editorial segment of the programme to advice leaders of all parties in Ghana and the entire Ghanaian populace to come together in fighting for a better Ghana.
He is urging the General Secretary of the NDC to render an apology to the Ghanaian youth for failing to lead an exemplary life worthy of emulation.
