Adhere to protocols and we’ll be COVID-19 free in three weeks- Epidemiologist
An Epidemiologist has said that Ghana can say goodbye to COVID-19 if all persons decide to wear face masks for at least three weeks continuously.
Dr Emmanuel Kenu expressed worry over the disregard for COVID-19 safety protocols.
“If we all decide that today is day one, everybody whether young or old, adult or whoever, when you are leaving your house, you put on your face mask, within 14 days anybody who has the virus will manifest, will show clear symptoms.
“If we continue that for another two weeks, what it means is that those that will fall sick, we will be able to get them and put them in the right places and start managing them. By the time we get to the third week, we can say goodbye to this virus,” he said in an interview monitored by theghanareport.com on Starr FM.
Dr. Kenu, who is also a senior lecturer at the School of Public Health, said failure to deal with the virus comprehensively would push the country into crisis.
“There are clear principles that are laid down, but believe me, if one person refuses to do it, this virus will be with us for a long time.”
“And I have said over and over again, in public health intervention, when we fail to implement things comprehensively, competently adhere to the principles, it will punish you in another way,” added.
Ghana’s coronavirus cases hit 12,929 on Thursday, June 18, 2020, with 4,468 recoveries.
The death toll stands at 66. According to the Ghana Health Service (GHS), four persons infected with Covid-19 are in critical condition and are on ventilators while 14 others are critically ill.
