Adenta Kumi charged with publication of false news

Alfred Ababio Kumi, a former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary aspirant, has been formally charged with the publication of false news after his arrested by operatives from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) on Friday.

According to his lawyer, Mr Kumi is facing accusations of sharing misleading information both on his X account and during a radio interview, linked to a petition he presented to the President.

Kumi is at the centre of a petition seeking the dissolution of the committee investigating the Chief Justice.

In this petition, he asserts allegations of misconduct that he argues could undermine the integrity of the investigation.

He specifically claims that on May 15, 2025, after the committee’s first meeting, Justices Pwamang and Adibu-Asiedu, along with Supreme Court Justice Yonni Kulendi, were spotted dining with Thaddeus Sory, who represents petitioner Daniel Ofori, at Santoku Restaurant in Accra’s Airport Residential Area.

Kumi further alleged that conversations related to the petition were overheard among the group.

In response to Kumi’s arrest, the NPP has expressed significant concerns.

The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, voiced his discontent regarding the circumstances surrounding Kumi’s detention.

He described the arrest as a “disgrace to the rule of law” and a national embarrassment.
