An amount of GH¢2.73 million and $590,000 extra cash has been discovered in the former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah’s Abelemkpe residence.

The discovery was contained in court documents filed by the Office of the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, days after the public revelation of stolen money by the former minister’s house helps.

Following the discovery, officers of the OSP seized the hefty sum on the basis of suspicions that it may be connected to illicit activities.

In all, three properties belonging to Cecilia, located in Cantonments, Abelemkpe, and Tesano, were subjected to a search.

The application before the court, therefore, seeks to retain the seized money and freeze Cecilia Dapaah’s bank accounts, including those with Prudential Bank and Societe Generale.

These measures are intended to facilitate ongoing investigations into potential corruption and corruption-related offenses involving the former minister.

The OSP, in its application filed at the High Court in Accra, emphasized the necessity of preventing any attempts at concealment or loss of the seized funds.

The application seeks the court’s confirmation of the freezing order as part of a broader effort to ensure the integrity of the investigation.

The application is set to be presented in court on Thursday, August 17, 2023.

Meanwhile, five out of seven accused persons in the Cecilia Dapaah theft case have been remanded in custody.

According to court reports, the thefts occurred between July and October 2022, with personal effects such as clothes, handbags, jewelry, and perfumes worth millions of cedis stolen from the former Minister and her husband, Daniel Osei Kuffour.

Below is the OSP’s application.
