Add value to Agric produce for economic benefits – UNECA
A Principal Policy Advisor of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Joseph Atta-Mensah has urged Ghana to increase the economic benefits from its agricultural produce through value addition.
According to him, this would lead the country on the path of economic development and also ensure the country derives the maximum benefits from the African Continental Free Trade Agreement.
Speaking at a stakeholder forum organised in Accra on identifying the role of the UNECA in its formulation and implementation, Mr. Atta-Mensah noted that “The lack of credit to small and medium enterprises and vulnerable goods in the country was also an issue that needed to be addressed to make businesses thrive.”
The AFCTA is an agreement signed by 54 countries and ratified by 22 which came into force on May, 30, 2019.
The agreement is meant to remove all impediments to trade among African countries on the continent.
