The Acting Minister of Defence, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced the formation of an internal board to probe the tragic stampede that transpired during the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise.
In his address to Parliament on Wednesday, Dr. Forson conveyed his deep sorrow regarding the tragedy and offered GAF’s condolences to the families affected.
“The Ministry of Defence deeply mourns the loss of lives and extends condolences to the affected families. We’re working closely with the Ghana Armed Forces, medical teams and law enforcement agencies to provide full support to the injured and to investigate the circumstances that led to the tragedy.
“As a result, the Ghana Armed Forces has instituted an internal board of inquiry to investigate the cause of this unfortunate incident. The safety and dignity of applicants remain paramount, and the ministry will take every step necessary to prevent recurrence of this matter”.
“The board will look into the circumstances that led to this unfortunate incident, ensure accountability, and recommend measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future,” he stated.
Information regarding the board’s composition or the timeline for its investigation has not yet been revealed.
The stampede occurred on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, when thousands of job seekers gathered at the El-Wak Sports Stadium for the GAF recruitment exercise.
The Ghana Armed Forces confirmed that six individuals lost their lives in the incident, while numerous others were injured and are currently receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital.
The recruitment exercise has been halted until further notice as the investigation continues.
