Accused’s family wants defiled 7-year old’s case withdrawn from court
The mother of the defiled seven-year-old in Agona Nyakrom says the parents of her daughter’s alleged abuser want the case withdrawn from the court and brought home for settlement.
“His family came to see me, and my husband, for us to bring the case home for settlement. I’m surprised they did that because he pleaded not guilty in court.
“If you didn’t do it, why should your family come to my house to beg on your behalf?” she told theghanareport.com.
The angry mother said she asked her unwanted guests, of Abdellah Idriss’ parents and siblings, to leave and see the police because “I don’t have control over the case.”
Ghana’s judicial system encourages alternative dispute resolution, but limits its application to criminal cases.
The court-connected ADR, which was introduced in 2005 is guided by the concept that when litigation is initiated, the fundamental objective is to help the disputing parties to resolve their differences by other equally desirable means without trial.
The process covers cases such as family disputes, land, divorce, child maintenance, debt recovery and criminal cases not involving felony.
You’ll die
Meanwhile, the little girl has told theghanareport.com that the man who allegedly molested her warned her not to tell anyone about her ordeal else she will die.
The scrawny kindergarten pupil said the man, popularly known as ‘Star Boy’ in the Nyakrom Zongo, held her mouth during the ordeal and warned her not to shout.
“He held my mouth and warned me not shout otherwise, I’ll die,” she said.
According to her, she was on her way to ease herself on a refuse dump when the man called her. But she refused.
The suspect, she said grabbed her and took her to his room
“He pushed me onto the bed and held my mouth that I shouldn’t shout. He said I’ll die if I shout, I tried to shout because it was painful, but he held my mouth,” she said.
When it was over, she said the man warned her again not to tell anybody or else she would die.
When she got home, she said two reasons prevented her from informing her mother about her painful ordeal—she was afraid that she would die, and also because her mother would beat her.
She, however, indicated that she came clean when her mother threatened to insert ginger into her private parts.
Facts of the case
The Agona Swedru Divisional Police Commander, DSP Christopher Owusu, told theghanareport.com that the incident happened almost three weeks ago when the girl’s mother, a laundress, went out to wash for one of her customers with her daughter.
