Accra Sports Stadium pitch is in terrible condition- Green Grass Technology

The Chief Executive of Green Grass Technology, Frank Boahene, has defended the move by the Sports Authority to close down the Accra Sports Stadium for maintenance works indicating the pitch needs to be attended to immediately.

Boahene who is responsible for pitch maintenance at the Accra Sports Stadium says the pitch is being overused with its state now being in a critical condition.

He also stated that the number of matches played at the venue so far this season has put the pitch in a deplorable state thus the need for urgent repairs.

“6 teams played at the Accra Sports Stadium which makes maintenance difficult. We have discovered that the quality of the pitch is not in good shape”, he told Happy FM.

“We have played 40 games so far which ideally should be for a season but now we are playing more than 240 games on one pitch. Periodically we must fertilize the pitch every month. The pitch has turned acidic and we advised the Director-General to do the maintenance work. So we made the recommendations to the NSA”, he added.

The NSA has directed the Ghana Football Association to postpone league matches from December 13-26, 2021.

Four clubs using the venue Great Olympics, Hearts of Oak, Accra Lions and Legon Cities will be affected during the period.
