Accra Metropolis tops coronavirus infection table

The Accra Metropolis has the highest number of coronavirus infections in the country, with 217 cases.

The Accra Metropolis is one of the most densely populated areas with infections representing 24% of the total 901 cases in the Greater Accra Region.

The densely-populated area will now be the epicentre of the COVID-19, caused by the coronavirus. Accra, Tema and Kumasi were the epicentres of the disease in Ghana before recent data released by the Ghana Health Service (GHS), which now shows the national tally to be 1,154.

The population of the district according to the 2010 population and housing census, stands at 1,665,086 with 800,935 males and 864,151 females. Chorkor, Korle Gonno and Jamestown are some of the areas in that jurisdiction.

Ayawaso Central follows at number two with 147 infections, while Ayawaso West has registered 99 infections of the contagion.

Communities under the Ayawaso West municipality include Airport residential area, Dzorwulu, Abelenkpe, East Legon and the University of Ghana campus.

Ayawaso Central is the third hottest spot for the deadly virus. It covers Kokomlemle, parts of Accra New Town, Pig Farm, parts of Kotobabi, Alajo and Avenor.

Ada East, Ada West, Adentan and Shai Osudoku have recorded no cases of the disease.

The GHS said 318 cases were recorded under routine surveillance, while 583 cases were recorded through enhanced contact tracing.

A total of 120 persons have recorded fully while nine have perished due to the deadly disease.
