Accra FM’s Bobie Ansah arrested

A radio presenter at Accra FM, Bobie Ansah, was arrested by police on Thursday, 10 February 2022.

He was picked up by security officers in plain clothes shortly after his evening political programme, the ‘Citizen Show’, at about 10 pm.

The reasons for his arrest is not yet known, but reports indicate that he was held briefly at the Nima Police Station.

A producer of the show later posted on Facebook that they “have no idea about where he has been sent to”.

Mr Ansah has been critical of the government on the radio programme that discusses controversial topics.

He is the third journalist to be arrested within a month.

Others who were also arrested in a similar manner include Onua TV’s Captain Smart, who was picked up over unsavoury comments.

Power FM’s Oheneba Boamah Bennie, was also convicted for allegedly making false claims against President Akufo-Addo and the justices of the Supreme Court concerning the 2020 election petition.

This is also the second time that police have arrested a staff of the Labone-based station within the year.

On 10 January 2022, a group of armed stormed the station to arrest drive time host Doctor Kay for allegedly obstructing them from doing their work.

Three plain-clothed men claiming to be police officers in the company of five others who also claimed to be staff of GBC walked into Accra FM demanding the station’s permit to broadcast Afcon 2022 matches.

They claimed that the station had no right to broadcast the games, leading to exchanges between the men and some staff of the station.

Doctor Kay was taken to the police headquarters, where his statement was taken and granted bail.
