Access Bank Ghana Supports Green Ghana Day for the Third Consecutive Year
In alignment with its strong commitment to sustainability and Sustainable Development Goal 15 (SDG15), Access Bank Ghana has once again demonstrated its support for the Green Ghana Day initiative.
With a commemorative tree planting exercise, this year marks the third consecutive year that Access Bank has participated in this significant environmental effort, which aims to protect, restore, and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems and sustainably manage forests in Ghana.
The President of Ghana has called for the planting of an additional 10 million trees across the nation on June 7, 2024, as part of urgent efforts to combat climate change, pollution,
and biodiversity loss underscoring the critical role of forests in this battle.
The official ceremony to mark Green Ghana Day took place at Burma Camp in Cantonment, Accra with the ambition to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 64 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent by 2030.
In support of this national call to action, Access Bank Ghana Plc has planted over 10,000 tree seedlings across the country today.
Speaking on the bank’s participation on the national tree-planting initiative, Managing Director Olumide Olatunji emphasized the bank’s dedication to environmental sustainability.
“Our continuous support towards the Green Ghana project is a testament to our commitment to being part of the solution to restore our landscape. Tree planting, however, is not the only sustainability drive the bank is embarking on. Our ‘A Sandal More For a Better Tomorrow’ initiative, where we collect used car tyres from the environment to produce comfortable sandals for underprivileged school children across the country, is also one of our sustainability drives,” Olatunji said.

He added, “At Access Bank, we do more than banking. We understand that the fate of our climate and the future of our communities depend on the actions we take today.
Our collective efforts will ensure a positive, transformative, and sustainable Ghana.” Olumide also commended the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor and the ministry for spearheading the Green Ghana project and pledged the bank’s continued support for this laudable initiative in the coming years.
He called on individuals, groups, and corporate institutions to join in climate action to protect our planet for future generations.
The Minister of Lands & Natural Resources, Abu Jinapor at the event held at the Burma Camp highlighted the impact of the initiative and said that the Green Ghana Day has become a cornerstone of meeting the nation’s emission target and reflected the commitment to not just planting trees but ensuring their growth and contributions to the fight against climate change.
