About 34, 000 NABCO beneficiaries exited into permanent jobs, says Bawumia

The Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) programme, which was launched by the Akufo-Addo administration in 2018 has seen 34,000 of its beneficiaries transition into permanent jobs, vice-president and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has disclosed.

This milestone, according to Dr Bawumia, is part of the government’s broader efforts to integrate these young graduates into the workforce after gaining valuable experience through various NABCO modules.

Responding to a question during a media engagement on Sunday (25 August) in Accra, Dr Bawumia said the transition of these 34,000 beneficiaries into permanent roles reflects the programme’s success in enhancing the employability of its participants and addressing unemployment in Ghana.

The beneficiaries had however been pursuing the government over unpaid allowances spanning the past nine months. They had threatened to launch a series of protests to get these arrears paid.

Dr Bawumia however indicated that efforts will be made to get arrears owed beneficiaries paid.

“I have raised this issue, and this is information that has come to me already and I have raised this issue with the Finance Ministry, and we will follow that up for the beneficiaries”, he assured.

The programme initially recruited 100,000 young graduates and was designed to provide temporary employment across sectors such as education, health, and agriculture.
