The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has firmly rejected claims by the Alliance of Drivers Ghana that the rising prices of spare parts are the reason for an increase in lorry fares by 20% starting March 17.

In a press release, the Chairman of the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association and President of the Ghana Auto Parts Dealers Association, Mr. Henry Okyere Jnr, called the allegations “false, misleading, and unnecessary.”

He emphasised that there has been no increase in spare parts prices to justify the proposed fare hike.

Mr. Okyere Jnr explained that both import duties and market conditions have remained stable, and stock levels for essential vehicle components, such as engine oil and filters, have not changed.

He reassured the public that the new government remains committed to ensuring stability in pricing and supply within the spare parts industry.

“We urge the Alliance of Drivers Ghana to ensure any fare adjustments are based on accurate economic data, rather than false claims,” the statement added.

The association further called on transport unions and regulators to engage in open and transparent discussions on fare adjustments, ensuring fairness for both transport operators and passengers.

The statement also encouraged transport users to disregard the unfounded connection between spare parts prices and the proposed fare hikes, reaffirming their commitment to honesty and transparency within the industry.
