Aboabo fire destroys 107 huts
The Ghana National Fire Service’s rapid response on November 21, 2025, kept a blaze at Aboabo Extension from spreading to other buildings near Mighty Royal International School.
The fire destroyed 107 wooden makeshift structures occupied by more than 100 squatters. Residents tried to put out the flames using buckets of water before firefighters arrived.
In a statement, the Ashanti Regional PRO, DO II Peter Addai, said two fire engines were deployed from the Manhyia and KNUST Fire Stations, with the Manhyia crew arriving at 9:55 a.m.
Reinforcements from KNUST helped bring the blaze under control by 10:21 a.m., and it was completely put out by 10:28 a.m.
Although all the wooden structures and their belongings were lost, no injuries or deaths were recorded.
The GNFS said their quick intervention prevented the fire from spreading beyond a quarter-hectare area, protecting nearby homes and facilities.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
