Ablekuma north chaos: No excuse for attack on Hawa Koomson – Tony Aidoo

Former Senior Presidential Aide Dr. Tony Aidoo has condemned the recent attack on former Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Mavis Hawa Koomson, stating unequivocally that “nothing justifies the assault.”

In a recent interview, Dr. Aidoo criticised the violence, while acknowledging Koomson’s often confrontational political style.

“She has every right to be there, but her personality and behaviour are provocative, she acts like a one-woman warrior and often stirs tension wherever she goes. Still, that doesn’t justify any physical attack, and the government must act swiftly to find and prosecute those responsible,” he said.

Dr. Aidoo went further, warning that the ruling NDC must hold itself to a higher moral standard, given its historical foundations in probity, accountability, and social justice.

“As a party born from those principles, the NDC carries a greater moral responsibility not just because it’s in power, but because of what it represents,” he stressed.

He called on President John Mahama to ensure that violent political incidents like the recent one in Ablekuma North do not echo past episodes such as the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence.

He concluded with a call for decisive leadership: “President Mahama must ensure that history does not repeat itself. Ghana’s democracy must not be undermined by political violence whoever is behind it.”
