Ablekuma North Chaos: 8 convicted persons fined GH¢6,000 each

The Accra Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Isaac Addo, has fined the eight persons convicted in connection with the Ablekuma North re-run violence a total of GH¢6,000 each.

Failure to pay the fine, the convicts are liable to serve a 24-month prison sentence.

On Friday, August 29, 2025, the convicts, Mohammed Abubakari, Tijani Mahmudu, Prince Dzakpasu, Anas Mohammed, Mohammed Hamda, Darko Otibu Samuel, Musah Muntari, and Ali Saeed (alias Bomba), all pleaded guilty to the charges levelled against them.

The prosecution narrated that during the re-run at the Methodist Church Polling Station, an incident occurred where the victims, comprising Hawa Mavis Koomson, the former Minister of State and ex-MP for Awutu Senya East; Majeed Mohammed Saana, a trader; and Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei, the Deputy Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), were physically assaulted.

Prosecutors informed the court that while the victims were observing the proceedings, the accused suddenly launched an unprovoked attack.

Initially, Mrs. Koomson and Mr. Saana were targeted, after which the attackers turned their aggression towards Mr. Kwei.

The eight accused faced charges of conspiracy to commit assault, as well as three counts of assault, in violation of Sections 23(1) and 84 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

The trial commenced on Monday, August 26, and was expedited as all defendants acknowledged their involvement in the violence. Ultimately, the proceedings concluded with their conviction and sentencing today.
