North Tongu Member of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has called for the immediate dissolution of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) board.

According to the legislator who has been championing the campaign against the sale of SSNIT hotels, the board has failed to manage SSNIT’s assets effectively.

“The SSNIT board must be dissolved without delay,” Ablakwa stated, adding, “They have done a great disservice to the people of Ghana.”

Ablakwa applauded Ghanaians, especially labor unions, for their efforts in opposing the sale of SSNIT’s hotels, which ultimately led to the discontinuation of the sale.

“This is a victory for the Ghanaian people’s organized labor, it is not my personal victory. Real power belongs to the people, you cannot continue to take the people for a ride. I want to salute organized labor,” he said on TV3’s Key Points monitored by theghanareport.com.

His comments followed SSNIT’s announcement on Friday, July 12, that it would terminate the controversial sale of 60% shares in four hotels.

This decision came after labor unions had announced plans for a nationwide strike in response to the sale’s approval by the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA).
