Portuguese giants Sporting CP have officially signed Ghanaian youngster Abdul Fatawu Issahaku on a long-term deal.
Issahaku has been at the club since February and has been training with the club’s U23 side ahead of the day when he could be officially offered a contract.
The former Dreams FC player has a five-year contract with the Portuguese club with a release clause of 60 million euros, a communique from Sporting CP has stated.
The move will help Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, 18, who is described as one for the future, to continue to develop while playing in the Portuguese league.
Sporting Clube de Portugal beat the likes of Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen to secure the signature of the highly rated attacking midfielder and the player expressed his joy after signing for the club.
“I’m very happy to be here. It’s fantastic. They welcomed me very well. Ghanaians believed in me and I had opportunities very early on. They made my dream possible and without that I don’t think I would be here. I promise to work hard to help the team achieve its goals”.
Issahaku made the headlines with an impressive display at the U-20 AFCON held last year in Mauritania where he was crowned the Player of the Tournament, scoring twice for the Black Satellites, en route to winning Ghana’s fourth youth continental trophy.
With his stellar performances in the competition and his eye-catching displays for Division One side, Steadfast FC, he secured a loan move to Ghana Premier League side, Dreams FC, in anticipation of a move to Europe.
While playing in the Ghana Premier League for the first time, the 17-year-old found the back of the net six times for the Still Believe lads prior to making the Black Stars final squad for the Africa Cup of Nations hosted in Cameroon.
He was part of the Black Stars squad that edged Nigeria in a two-legged fixture to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be hosted in Qatar.
