A final-year student of the Akenten Appiah Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) has been stabbed to death.
The incident which occurred in Bantama, a suburb of the Ashanti Region, follows an alleged theft accusation.
Eyewitnesses report that the student, who was in his late twenties and known locally as ‘Gye Nyame,’ was accused of stealing a bag by an elderly woman.
The woman’s 30-year-old boyfriend confronted the student after she reported the alleged theft to him.
The confrontation quickly escalated as the student denied the accusation and reportedly threatened the said boyfriend.
The tension between the two men persisted for days, culminating in a violent clash on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, during which the student was fatally stabbed in the head.
Despite being rushed to the Suntreso Government Hospital, the student succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Elders in the area had attempted to mediate and prevent the altercation from escalating, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
The suspect has since been arrested and is currently in police custody, awaiting court proceedings.
This incident is not the first time a student of AAMUSTED has been reported dead under tragic circumstances.
The school has witnessed similar unfortunate events in the past.
In September 2023, Prosper Owusu, a third-year AAMUSTED student died from fire-related injuries.
The deceased was performing traditional rites as the chief priest with some Opoku Ware II Hall students when the unfortunate incident occurred.
This also comes a day after a final-year student at O’Reilly Senior High School in Accra reportedly stabbed another student to death following an argument.
The altercation reportedly began as a heated exchange over who was wealthier, escalating into a physical fight.
