A/R: Two scrap dealers lynched in Ntensere over alleged abduction

Two scrap dealers have been lynched in Ntensere following accusations of attempting to abduct a three-year-old boy.

The incident which occurred on Sunday, March 15, 2026, has instilled fear among metal scrap dealers in the Ashanti Region.

According to reports, the incident commenced when a nine-year-old girl raised the alarm, claiming that one of the scrap dealers had wrapped her brother in a sack.

Community members intervened, and tensions escalated, resulting in one dealer being lynched on the spot.

The second dealer was tracked to a scrap metal facility, where he was killed after being assaulted with stones and other implements.

Eyewitness accounts provided conflicting details regarding the alleged abduction, with the girl later clarifying that her brother had been rescued unharmed.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the Metal Scrap Dealers Association in the Ashanti Region has expressed concern for their members’ safety and called for justice.

Abubakar Aminu Champang cautioned against attacks on scrap dealers and appealed to authorities, including President John Dramani Mahama, the Interior Minister, the Inspector-General of Police Christian Yahonu, and the Chief Justice, to intervene.

Champang emphasised that repeated incidents of mob violence could lead to wider chaos if left unchecked.

“Instant justice is not good for society. Justice must prevail,” he stated, urging the Regional Police Commander and Regional Security Coordinator, Captain Jabari, to take prompt action.

Police at Kokoben are currently investigating the matter. Opinion leaders have noted that this is not the first instance of scrap dealers being accused of crimes and lynched in the Ntensere community, underscoring ongoing tensions between residents and the metal scrap sector.
