A/R: Temporary outages expected as GRIDCo connects new Anwomaso plant

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has announced scheduled works on the 330 kV Takoradi–Thermal–Anwomaso Transmission Line as part of its initiative to connect a new power generation facility at Anwomaso in Kumasi to the national grid.

This announcement comes in the wake of a temporary power outage that impacted certain areas of Greater Kumasi on Sunday, December 21, 2025, which was caused by a minor fault at GRIDCo that resulted in a decrease in electricity supply to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

In a press release issued on the same day, GRIDCo stated that the works are being carried out by AKSA Energy to operationalise its newly constructed power generation plant at Anwomaso.

GRIDCo indicated that once fully commissioned, the plant will contribute to Ghana’s generation capacity and greatly enhance the reliability of power supply to Kumasi and its neighbouring communities.

As part of the commissioning procedure, an operation is being conducted to safely connect the AKSA Anwomaso Generating Plant to the national power system through the 330 kV transmission line. GRIDCo mentioned that this activity may necessitate a temporary power supply interruption for some customers for about three hours to facilitate the safe termination and integration of the new substation.

Power supply to all affected customers is anticipated to be completely restored by 11:00 p.m. on the same day.

GRIDCo further expressed its apologies for any inconvenience that the temporary interruption may cause and reassured the public that these works are essential for improving the stability and reliability of electricity supply in Kumasi and surrounding areas.
