A/R: Explosion kills 3 including two-year-old boy

A fuel tanker burst into flames, killing three people on the spot at Onyina Nofo in the Ashanti Region.

A two-year-old boy was charred beyond recognition, as well as the driver and his assistant.

The incident occurred late afternoon on Monday, May 24.

The tanker was travelling from Kumasi to Tepa via Onyina Nofo, a small community in the Ahafo Ano District.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver was travelling at a top speed, so he could not negotiate a long curve on the route.

The driver is believed to have lost control of the fuel tanker, which toppled over, crashed into a village and caught fire in the process.

Atleast 10 people are believed to be injured as the fire spread to over a dozen homes.

Personnel from the Ghana Police Service has been dispatched to the scene to maintain order as firefighters make frantic efforts to douse the flames.

Officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have been deployed to provide relief items to the affected people.

Confirming the incident, Director-General of NADMO, Eric Nana Agyemang-Prempeh, said mattresses, blankets, and mosquito nets and being prepared to be dispatched to the affected persons.

They are also making arrangement’s to provide shelter to homeless people in nearby schools and churches.
