The Council of State election in the Ashanti Region turned chaotic when a group of heavily built men invaded a polling station to cause mayhem.
Their aggressive actions not only led to the destruction of materials belonging to the Electoral Commission (EC) but also resulted in the physical assault of journalists covering the elections.
Following the chaotic disruption, the election process has been put on hold for calm to be restored.
Meanwhile, heavy security has been deployed to the election centre to ensure peace.
Another region that witnessed chaos during the voting exercise was the Greater Accra Region.
But the police intervened swiftly to ensure orderliness at the voting centre.
In a related development, the process was peaceful in the Western Region with Maxwell Boakye, a 32-year-old gold dealer, emerging victorious.
He secured 17 out of 28 votes.
The Council of State, as defined in Article 89 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, is an important advisory body composed of both appointed and elected members.
It plays a critical role in guiding the president on governance issues, with each region electing its representative alongside others appointed for their expertise and experience.
