Kwame Asare Obeng, also known as A-Plus, the newly elected independent legislator for Gomoa Central in the Central Region, has shared his personal struggle regarding which political party to join as Ghana’s 9th Parliament convenes.
On Monday, January 6, 2025, A-Plus took to Facebook to disclose that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had approached him with collaboration proposals. Each party offered convincing reasons to secure his support for their cause.
A-Plus revealed that Kennedy Agyapong, representing the NPP, officially reached out to him with an appealing offer. The NPP promised that they would not contest the Gomoa Central seat in the 2028 elections should A-Plus decide to join their ranks. This gesture was seen as a sign of the NPP’s serious intentions to garner his support.
In his post, A-Plus emphasised his commitment to siding with the party that has his best interests at heart, as well as the interests of the people of Gomoa Central.
“I will ultimately side with whoever has my interest at heart and provides the best offer for me and the people of Gomoa Central,” he stated.

As of now, Ghana’s 9th Parliament has a clear majority with the NDC holding 183 seats, while the NPP has 88.
There are four Independent MPs-elect, with one seat still under contest. Both the NDC and NPP are courting these independent MPs to strengthen their positions in the upcoming parliament sessions.
Despite these negotiations, A-Plus revealed that his heart leaned more towards the NDC.
He acknowledged that while he had friends in both political camps, his final decision would be guided not by emotions but by which party offers the most compelling package for him and his constituents.
