A letter from the Education Minister to parents and guardians
Dear cherished parents/guardians,
In light of the developments regarding COVID-19, I would like to first say that our
thoughts are with those affected by the virus in Ghana and across the globe. Following school closures and various restrictions in the country to curtail the spread of the virus, my team and I empathise with how overwhelming it may be for you at home and I believe you have a deeper sense of appreciation of the enormous task that rests with schools and teachers.
I want to congratulate you for doing exceptionally well so far and encourage you to continue to make the safety and well-being of you and your family a top priority. As we closely monitor the evolving impact of this global pandemic, we are implementing various measures to ensure that children continue to learn while at home, and we hope that you can render them your utmost support while maintaining a safe environment for them to learn and thrive.
To that end, we have introduced a number of platforms, with more in development, to assist children in learning. For online, we have resources available for SHS students on iCampus Ghana which can be accessed at icampusgh.com using their BECE Index Number plus the last two digits of the year they wrote their BECE as their username. So, for SHS 3 students, add 17 to the end of their BECE index number, 18 for SHS 2 and 19 for SHS 1.
Additionally, the Ghana Learning TV is now available on free-to-air TV, as well as on DStv channel 315, GOtv channel 150 and Star Times channel 312. We are currently producing learning content for radio broadcast, soon to be available across the country.
The following steps may also come in handy in managing your child’s time and maximising study time.
1. Draw a simple timetable or schedule with breaks for rest, play or meals.
2. Give them simple tasks and assess them orally and correct them appropriately.
3. Encourage them to take on new healthy hobbies.
4. Incorporate physical education/exercise into your day-to-day activities to cope with
staying indoors for long periods.
5. Create a safe environment for children to learn and thrive and avoid overburdening them with chores.
6. Strengthen your relationship with your children’s schoolteachers and
administrators to receive ongoing support with learning at home.
In the meantime, we want to assure you that we will continue to do our best in delivering quality education to all children across the country. As we navigate through these challenging times, I am reminded of how fortunate we are to be part of this strong community that supports one another to accomplish great things. It is the power of this community that will propel us through this to better times.
On behalf of the Ministry of Education, I wish you and your loved ones health and safety and thank you for your continued support and partnership in educating the next generation of this country.
Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh
Minister for Education

What is the fate of the private school teacher whose salary comes solely from the fees the school collects. When without prior notice and preparation government ordered schools to close down.
We experiencing a global pandemic n looking your rhoughts.such a shame.then you should take your child to school n be the teacher.even in the event of people dying all u an ask is money money

Hmm

A very good step taken. But what considerations are in place for those children in rural communities that their parents/guardians have no formal education not to talk lack of network services in these communities?
GOD BLESS YOU
Please Mr Minister it seems the private schools in Ghana are not of the whole education communities , hardly do you mention anything about private institutions , without them education sector would have been in a mess . How do we pay our teachers and other workers in the school nothing concern you about all these things ,by now every possible help to private institutions have completed , we thank you , My VOTE WILL BE MY POWER

Hmmmmm.Mr.minister, so you have no plans for helping we the private teacher to get salary ???yooo
Infact private schools r suffering, Even de Ministers their children go to private schools.no consider ?? De vote will speak
please JHS3 one is not there.
Well, well, well Mr. Minister, quite a nice speech. I have some few questions to ask though. How many people in deprived areas have access to the above mentioned? How many parents in Ghana have had formal education? What of these kids who have to help their parents sell(work) in order to make living, how do they study when they are this tired?. For all I know the private sector when talking about education plays a significant role, yet anytime you talk you tend not to prioritize them in your speeches. It is high time you put measures in place to get these kids back to school and help private school teachers save their family lives and help the children benefit. You can even decide to enforce the wearing of mask to class like other nations who have been highly hit with this covid 19. Let’s begin to think outside the box and do something that atleast protect the kids as well as the teachers especially those in the private institutions. Are you saying incase the virus doesn’t disappear till September or even next year there will be no schools when even the most clumsy places were the virus could be spread the more which is the market places have even being opened.
It is my humble prayer that God hears our cry, heal us and heal our land and the world at large. Thank you very much for this opportunity.
God richly bless you
I think a lot more needs to be done. I think you need to assess the situation and find out how many people are benefiting from the provisions that have been made for Children to learn while at home. Not every child has the resources to access the online learning. In some cases, those who have are not able to access because of poor network. TV is not in every home. This must not be taken for granted. I think the ministry should liaise with the district assemblies to find out com. Cunities with challenges. A small community IT center should be set up in such communities to help such children.

Thanks honourable, I think you need to consider those in the remote areas because not all students will benefit from the wonderful program you are putting across. Thanks
Thank you honorable minister and I also think you should adjust our tertiary education a little bit because not all students can care for themselves and the white people education system is different from ours
Thank you sir for your hardwork. Please what about the JSH 3pupils what are you doing for them. For the Ghana learning TV it on teaches only SHS syllabus the JHS 3pupils are finding it difficult to learn at home. Please Minster do something about it for them if they can give them time table for them to have their share of learning on online that will also help. They should identify the day and time for them. Thank you.
Please what of the NovDec registration, is it extended since schools are closed and Wassce will definitely hold? Also when will the Novdec be written after wassce? I want to be registered please and am sure some people are waiting to be registered too
These laid down policies and measures is only going to benefit a fewer number of students who access to the above mentioned learning equipment. Secondly, I’m still
wondering how parents/guidance with little or no iota of formal education could guide their wards. It’s quite unfortunate, we are not in normal times. If there’s any other way to established equality between the privilege and the less privileges – let’s not hold back..
Thank you
Thank you Sir
Please Sir , what interventions does the Government have in place for the private school teachers and workers who are home.It is not easy being in the house with no income.
Thanks honourable, this measures will only benefit few people lectures are giving assignment whilst most students are not having access to network,Mr honourable how can these students be assessed
I don’t have assets to my elective subjects. Such as Business Management, Economics and Financial Accounting.
Honourable, Ayekoo.
Per what we have assess
so far we can conclude that these implementations are for the grammar schools.
Technical institutions are left behind.
Any arrangements for the technical institutions? Thanks
Great idea Mr. Minister but I think you still have a lot to do to in order not jeopardize the lives of our future generations. The interventions put in place to me is good but to large extent will benefit just a few. Can you think of a holistic approach to the problem? I hope you do so in your second COVID 19 update to Ghanaians.
Thanks
Hon. Minister thank you for the provisions made for our children.
Our concern is about the private school and the teachers working there. They haven’t received their salary in this covid19 crisis and they are suffering. Kindly consider this and do something about them, so that they can also get something to depend on. Thank you
Thank you Minister. Please My humble plead is how can we in the private schools access this link or we also hve our link. Thank you
What about children in the remote areas where parents can’t afford phones or TV set, DCE’s or Assembly Men must step in by placing giant screens at community centres.
Thank you sir, God richly bless you and our nation Ghana. Please sir do something to help we the private teachers cos authorities refuse to pay us since from March till today. Please help us. Thanks
Interesting
Thank you Sir. God bless our homeland Ghana.
