A good coach will not allow anyone to interfere in player selection – Kwesi Appiah
Sudan’s national team head coach, James Kwesi Appiah, has strongly condemned the interference of club owners, presidents, and football agents in player selection, emphasizing that a true coach should have the sole authority to choose the players for any match.
The former Black Stars coach voiced his frustration over what he described as a troubling trend in both club and national football, where external figures attempt to influence selection decisions.
Appiah, who has faced several controversies during his tenure with the Black Stars, made it clear that he would not bow to outside pressure when it comes to picking players for his team.
If you are a coach and let someone who says he is a club chairman, an agent, or president of the country tell you which players to select, then you are not a good coach,” he told Asempa FM.
“For me, even if you are the president, I will not have any respect for you again. If things go wrong, it is the name of the coach that they will mention.”
