Man jailed 15 years for robbery, assault
An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced a 28-year-old man to 15 years imprisonment in hard labour.
Emmanuel Bortey was jailed for robbing his victim and inflicting multiple knife wounds on him in the process.
He was arrested by the police after his victim lodged a complaint at the Nungua Police station on October 6, 2020.
The convict and his accomplice who is currently on the run attacked and left deep knife wounds on the victim’s stomach, left hand, and shoulders in an attempt to rob him of his Infinix Note S mobile phone at Nungua, Ravico.
Police investigations led to the arrest of Emmanuel on October 8, 2020, at Nungua Maamli.
He was then arraigned before Circuit Court 11, presided over by Her Worship, Mrs. Priscilla Mireku, where he pleaded guilty to the charges of robbery and causing harm, hence the sentence.
The police are on the heels of the accomplice.
On September 8, 2020, an unemployed man, Prosper Dzokah, was also sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court for robbing a lady of her handbag containing GHS70.00 and other personal effects at Teshie in Accra.
Charged with robbery, Dzokah pleaded guilty and he was remanded on July 16.
Appearing at the court, the trial judge convicted Dzokah on his own plea.
