Medeama SC receives sponsorship deal worth $300,000

Goldfields Ghana Limited has announced a lucrative sponsorship deal with Ghana Premier League side, Medeama Sporting Club for the 2020/2021 GPL and MTN FA Cup campaign.

The deal, worth a whopping $300,000, is meant to cover the salaries of players and managers, medicals, accommodation, feeding, and logistics for the team.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Baku told the Management of the Club that, the purpose of the funds should be directed to its use.

“We expect the Management of the club to use the funds solely for the purpose stipulated in the sponsorship agreement.”

In line with Gold Fields’ sponsorship policy, Mr. Baku said, his outfit would monitor how the funds would be disbursed to ensure that they were used for the purpose for which it was approved.

He mentioned that his outfit would continue to sponsor the community club when they qualify to play in CAF Inter-continental Club competitions.

Alfred Baku, the Executive Vice President and Head of Gold Fields West Africa, disclosed that the club’s fine showing in the GHPL in recent times, pushed the company to back them in the sponsorship deal.

“Medeama, in the last two seasons have been impressive.

“The club’s achievement, before the suspension of the 2019/2020 GHPL was very commendable, beating giants Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak at the Akoon Park,” he said.

“We will continue to support the club because we believe that our host community in Tarkwa can develop through the game of football,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Akoon Park in Tarkwa, which was recently rehabilitated by Gold Fields would serve as the home-ground of Medeama to enable the mining company re-construct the T&A Park to an international standard for the club’s use.
