The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has urged individuals and groups who want to present petitions to Parliament to follow the proper procedures instead of organising demonstrations to deliver their concerns.
Speaking at the ongoing IPR Ghana 2026 National PR Conference and Excellence Awards in Koforidua, Bagbin explained that petitions must be submitted through a Member of Parliament (MP).
He said the MP would present the petition to the Speaker, who would consider it for acceptance as official parliamentary business.
Once accepted, the petition would be scheduled for discussion, presented to the House and referred to the appropriate committee for further examination.
Bagbin stressed that walking to Parliament to hand over a petition to the Speaker or another parliamentary leader was not the correct procedure.
“I plead with you, whatever petitions you have, don’t demonstrate and walk to Parliament to try to hand it over to any leader. That is not the procedure now. Pass it through a Member of Parliament,” he said.
