Police seize 300,000 ‘wash and wear’ condoms in Vietnam
COPS have seized 324,000 used condoms which were being washed and resold as new to unsuspecting men after a raid in a warehouse.
Authorities found an estimated 324,000 condoms weighing 360kg at a ragged facility in Binh Duong, Vietnam on September 19.
According to the owner of the facility, Pham Thi Thanh, she had been receiving the used condoms each month from a supplier who is said to get them from the bins of hotels.
Workers were hired to clean, dry and dry the condoms before reshaping them with different sized wooden dildos.
They would then be repackaged and sold nearby hotels and markets within the province.
The recycled condoms were repackaged before being resold at nearby hotels and market stalls within the province.
According to the Provincial Market Management director, Tran Van Tung, the condoms have been seized as evidence and will be disposed of immediately after investigations are complete as they are considered hazardous medical waste.
He said: “condoms are classified as medical items, so we will take a look at the several laws the owner has broken”.
Police say the owner of the warehouse had been arrested and will be questioned about the crime and her supplier before being officially charged.
Besides the used condoms found, police also uncovered thousands of condoms which had already been packaged and ready to be sold without brand names.
According to statistics Vietnam uses at least 500 condoms each year.
Medical experts have warned about reusing condoms as there is a high risk of spreading STDs and is also not guaranteed to prevent unwanted pregnancies.
