Lawyer for the Assin Central MP, Alexander Afenyo Markin is convinced justice will be served in the contempt case against his client Kennedy Agyapong.
Welcoming the ruling given by the High Court judge Amos Wuntah Wuni, Mr Afenyo Markin said he believes in the justice delivery system in the country.
“We don’t need to have a banter on this matter. We believe that the procedure is part of the substantive law within the judicial system.
“We would have a safe landing, justice will be served and the image of the judiciary will also be in good state,” he said after Friday’s proceedings.
Mr Afenyo Markin also expressed his excitement about a debate between the counsel and the judge.
“It was a healthy engagement between the bar and the bench and we understand the beauty of the law in the manner we find it today.
“The law has no limitation, once an officer of the court and in this case, counsel, engages the court on a healthy exchange on matters of law, a judge minded to ensuring justice in the matter will do what he has done,” he added.
According to the lawyer who is also the Effutu constituency MP, the judge had demonstrated that he only wants the law to remain supreme.
The court, in its ruling on Friday adjourned the legislator’s contempt case to September 25, this year.
The MPs lawyers were seeking a supervisory order of prohibition against the High Court and its position as far as the contempt case was concerned.
The motion filed at the Supreme court sought to “invoke the jurisdiction of the supreme court under article 132 of the 1992 constitution of Ghana.”
Article 132 says the Supreme Court shall have supervisory jurisdiction of all courts.
