Ahwoi predicting Mahama defeat – Rawlings tweets ahead of new book ‘Triumph of Evil’
Founder of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jerry John Rawlings has berated his former confidante, Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi, for scheming to take over the party.
The former president, in a tweet Monday morning, said a cabal within the NDC led by the Ahwoi are working to “consolidate their control of the party and provide their own flagbearer and running mate for 2024.”
That possibility, he said, hinges on a “cunning calculation” that John Mahama loses the 2020 presidential election and steps aside from frontline partisan politics.

Political commentators have been bracing for a fiery response from Rawlings after Prof Ahwoi wrote a book ‘Working with Rawlings’ deemed unflattering of the party’s founder and former president.
Prof. Ahwoi, among many revelations and claims, said Rawlings did not appear to have a vision for Ghana during his presidency from 1993 to 2000.
The book, serialised extensively in the media, has been criticized by some within the NDC for what they say was a poorly timed release when the party is working to win the 2020 general elections in December.
Rawlings however believes the book was aimed at his legacy and stature within the NDC.
There is nothing ill-timed about Kwamena Ahwoi serving dankwansere soup at this time. He needed to knock down Rawlings… pic.twitter.com/lpwuuJrZmO

Rawlings in his tweet fleshed out his long-held views on Ahwoi family’s political plans.
In 2018 when the Daily Graphic reported that former Agriculture Minister Kwesi Ahwoi could possibly become running mate to John Mahama, the NDC founder issued a veiled disapproval.
Isn’t the Presidency too busy a place for hopefuls/running mates who spend a little too much time grooming their moustache and dyeing their hair?

John Mahama has gone ahead to select Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang as his running mate.
This time, Prof. Ahwoi has come out to indicated that while she was not his preference, the choice is nonetheless a “brilliant” pick.
Prof. Ahwoi, according to his book, played a key role in selecting a running mate for Rawlings in 1996. He has said Prof. John Evans Atta Mills was selected without Rawlings having to meet the former tax expert.
Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi’s book could define Rawlings’ legacy.
The former president appears to be aware of this and has finally dropped the title of his eagerly anticipated version of history, ‘Triumph of Evil’.
This response is needless since whatever one thinks of what the book want to achieve.
