Agya Koo drops 2020 campaign song

Kumawood actor and New Patriotic Party (NPP) sympathiser, Kofi Adu, popularly known as Agya Koo, has released a campaign song for the party ahead of the December 7 elections.

The song titled ‘Afa’ to wit ‘taken’ seeks to promulgate the delivered promises by the Nana Addo led government.

It is unclear what his intentions are for releasing the song since he had earlier complained of being neglected by the party after he campaigned for the NPP in the 2016 elections.

In October 2018, the actor joined  Kwabena Kwabena  Lucky Mensah, Praye and other artistes to declare their support for the NPP at its Manifesto launch.

His wits, verbal punches and appeal for the support for the NPP was met with deafening cheers.

Prior  to the 2016 election, the famous actor launched a movement to canvass votes for the NPP dubbed ‘Agenda 57% for Akufo-Addo’.

“Apart from being a movie star, I am a parent and as such, I am conversant with fuel prices, the dollar rate and other commodities on the market, and how expensive it is to give my children quality education in this country,” he said at the launch

During election years, entertainers alike throw their weight behind political parties in anticipation to receive favours after they win power.

But oftentimes these entertainers complain of neglect.

In 2017, Ghanaian highlife musician and well-known supporter of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jewel Ackah, complained bitterly about how the NDC neglected him.

The veteran singer composed a popular campaign song for the NDC entitled, “Arise Arise,” prior to Jerry John Rawlings becoming president and also during the electioneering campaign of former President John Evans Atta Mills – which was later adopted as the party’s anthem.

On April 27, 2018, he suffered a stroke  and died after battling several undisclosed ailments in the last decade of his life. He was 73.

In 2016, another highlife musician, Lucky Mensah, who declared support for President Mills (now late) in 2011 made a U-turn to endorse the then-candidate Akufo-Addo.

He claimed the Mills administration had failed to live up to expectation and released a song ridiculing the performance of the NDC administration.

Some interpreted it to mean that he turned his back on the NDC because he did not receive the handouts he expected from the administration.
