Akufo-Addo Dismisses Report on being Flown To UK For COVID-19 Treatment
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has dismissed media reports that he was flown to the United Kingdom for COVID-19 treatment.
The President who spoke after his 14-day self-isolation period said he was “amazed” about a publication on a website.
“I want to thank you for your interest in my welfare, I am fine and I am here. I was sitting in my room and I was told I was sitting in a plane that was heading for Oxford, and it’s trajectory plotted on a map. I was amazed but there it is, this is the Ghana in which we live, thank you,” President Akufo-Addo told members of the Vehicle and Asset Dealers Union of Ghana on Tuesday.
The self-quarantine measure started Saturday, July 4, according to a press statement issued by Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.
The statement said Mr. Akufo-Addo “tested negative, but has elected to take this measure out of the abundance of caution.”
The release explained that Mr. Akufo-Addo would be working from the Presidential Villa at the Jubilee House during that period.
President Akufo-Addo on Saturday, July 18, completed his 14-days self-isolation.
The president went on self-isolation after it was discovered that a member of his inner circles had tested positive for the novel coronavirus, which has infected more than 26,000 in Ghana.
Presidential adviser on Health, Dr. Nsiah Asare, announced the President’s time in isolation was over.
He said all other appointees and ministers who tested positive for the virus have recovered.
