High-powered police delegation meets Yaa Naa over ‘expulsion’ of Yendi Divisional Commander
A high-powered police delegation met with the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II, over the expulsion of the Yendi Divisional Commander from the area.
The delegation held a closed-door meeting with the Overlord at the Gbewa Palace. Also at the meeting was the embattled Commander, ACP Peter Akokora Ayirezang.
ACP Ayirezang was accused of disrespecting the Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom.
Accra-based Citi FM reported that the high-powered delegation was led by the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Isaac Ken Yeboah; and the Director-General, Welfare of the Police Service, Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah.
Other Senior Police Officers joined the delegation to render an apology to the Overlord.
According to Citi FM, the Yaa Naa accepted the apology, but insisted a new Divisional Commander be posted to the area.
ACP Ayirezang was accused of disrespecting a directive from the Overlord, Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II when he refused to drop a case involving two sub-chiefs.
A former member of the Yendi Municipal Assembly, Abu Zolge said a dispute between the sub-chiefs was settled by the Overlord when the Commander invited the two for further investigation.
Zolge said upon hearing of the development, the Dagbon overlord sent a representative to inform the commander that the issue had already been resolved by his palace.
According to Zolge, the police Commander allegedly refused to drop the case and rather ordered the arrest of the two sub-chiefs.
This reportedly infuriated the Yaa Naa, who then ordered the commander to leave the town with immediate effect, citing his “disrespect”.
