Photo: Akufo-Addo holds virtual cabinet meeting

Amidst the rapid spread of coronavirus in the country, President Akufo-Addo has held his first virtual cabinet meeting.

The government was compelled to hold a virtual cabinet meeting after some top government officials tested positive for the virus.

“July 14th marks the 80th cabinet meeting but due to the outbreak of coronavirus and the social distancing protocol that has accompanied it, it has become necessary to hold the meeting virtually” Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has said.

At least seven government officials have been infected with COVID-19. The Volta regional minister Dr. Letsa Archibold is the most recent victim.

Some ministers and government appointees including; the Education Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh; Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo-Mafo; Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu; and Minister for Regional Re-organization and Development, Dan Botwe, former Deputy Trade Minister, Carlos Ahenkorah; the NHIA boss, Dr. Lydia Dsane-Selby have been treated for the virus.

President Akufo-Addo chaired the meeting from the Presidential Villa where he has been self-isolating after he came into contact with persons infected with the coronavirus.

Other state institutions including Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Ministry of Finance, Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST) have asked their workers to work from home.
