Over 30 FDA staff recover from COVID-19

The Food and Drugs Authority has announced that thirty-eight of its staff who tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered and are expected to resume work soon.

One person is also responding to treatment and will remain in isolation.

The 39 COVID-19 staff are part of the 450 staff whose samples were taken for testing as part of the authority’s mandatory testing.

The samples were earlier taken from its head office, the laboratory, Tema and KIA offices in Accra.

The authority, in a statement said: “all 39 staff were asked to go into self-quarantine and those who were in close proximity to them were also asked to do the same and were provided with the necessary logistics to do so.”

“In addition to following strictly all laid down protocols in the fight against COVID-19, all FDA offices across the nation are fumigated every two weeks,” excerpts of the statement read.

The authority also indicated that it has reduced staff presence to 25% with a majority of staff working from home.

A shift system has also been put in place to reduce the number of people present at the office at any given.
