Police to investigate officer who slapped woman at voter registration center

The Ghana Police Service says it has begun investigations into an assault incident between one of its men and a woman at a place believed to be a voter registration centre.

In a video, which has since gone viral, the uniformed officer was captured in a heated argument with a woman in the queue with others waiting to be attended to.

It is, however, unclear what may have led to the exchanges between both parties.

The footage then goes on to show the yet-to-be-identified officer slapping the middle-aged woman to the shock of onlookers.

While others intervened to restrain the woman from confronting the policeman after the slap, he was also pulled away by some men at the scene.

Some Ghanaians took to social media to express their disgust over the actions of the police officer calling for his dismissal from the service.

In a Facebook post, the Police Service assured the public that it had commenced investigations into the matter and will provide the facts of the matter in due time.

“The attention of the Police Administration has been drawn to a video circulating on social media in which a police officer is seen slapping a woman at a place believed to be a Voters Registration Centre.

The Police Administration wishes to assure the public that it has commenced an investigation into the matter and will provide facts of the matter to the public in due time, all should be assured,” the police’s post on its verified Facebook account read.
