NIA to begin mop-up registration from Thursday
After weeks of suspending its registration exercise in the Eastern Region shrouded in controversy, the National Identification Authority (NIA says all is set to continue with its planned mop-up registration in the various regions.
The NIA came under severe criticism for continuing with its registration exercise at a time covid-19 was on the rise in Ghana.
In March, two citizens Mark Oliver Kevor and Emmanuel Okrah filed a case at the High Court asking that the authority be stopped from carrying out its registration exercise.
But the Court on March 27 gave the NIA the green light to continue its registration.
But the authority froze the process, pointing to the country’s covid-19. But on the same day, the NIA indefinitely suspended its mass registration in the Eastern Region until further notice.
But almost three months later, the authority is resuming work.
The exercise is expected to start from June 18, 2020, throughout the country, excluding the Eastern Region.
The authority, in a statement, explained that due to the suspension of the exercise, following the deadly coronavirus outbreak, the Eastern Region registration would be held on Thursday to Friday.
Other itineraries for the other regions mop-up exercise are as follows:
The mop-up registration exercise would start from the Upper East and the Upper West regions on Thursday and end on Friday, July 3, 2020.
The next port of call would be the Northern, North East and Savannah regions, where the exercise will start from July 10 and end on July 24, this year.

The Volta and Oti regions would take their turn from July 30 to August 13.
The NIA mop-up registration caravan is expected to make a stopover in the Greater Accra Region from August 16 to 29.
The Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions would take their turn from August 20 to September 4.
