New board of Asante Kotoko banned from signing new players

The owner and life patron of Asante Kotoko, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, II has banned the club from signing any player for at least a season.

The Chief of Staff at Manhyia, Kofi Badu, announced the decision during the inaugural ceremony of the new Board of Directors for the Porcupine Warriors.

The club has over three years lost millions of Ghana cedis through signing and laying off players. A total of fifty-five players were caught up in this situation over the said period.

According to Mr Badu, Manhyia is convinced there was enough quality in the current squad to compete on the domestic scene.

“Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has directed that the club should not recruit any new player for at least a season,” Mr Badu said.

“The reason is to temporarily stop the player attrition rate and enable us to work with the current crop of players, who the Asantehene thinks have the quality to push the club to the top,” he added.

The Kumasi-based giants outdoored their new nine-member Board of Directors at the Sports Hotel in Asokwa on Tuesday morning.

The club used the ceremony to outline the goals and visions of the team for the coming years.
