Bono East records first COVID-19 case as national tally hits 7,616
313 new coronavirus infections as president eyes easing restrictions
More than 300 new cases of coronavirus has been recorded as Ghanaians get prepared for a likely easing of the ban on public gathering.
The Bono East Region has also recorded its first coronavirus case, leaving Ahafo the only non-infected region among the country’s 16 administrative demarcations.
The country’s total COVID-19 infections has hit 7,616.
The Bono East Regional Minister, Kofi Amoakohene, during a media briefing at the Kintampo Research Health Center, said the first case in the region was detected in Yeji in the Pru East District.
The patient is a 31-year-old man driver who plies his trade from Yeji to Kumasi.
The Regional Minister added that eight persons had been identified as possible contacts of the infected commercial driver. Meanwhile, the infected person has been quarantined.
Fresh figures reported Friday, May 29, 2020, by the Ghana Health Service (GHS), showed an increase in Ghana’s COVID-19 cases from an initial 7,303.
This means, 313 new cases have so far been detected. In the latest update by the GHS, nine (9) more persons have recovered, bringing the total recoveries to 2,421.
The Greater Accra Region remains the region with the most coronavirus cases with a total of 5,331 infections.
Ashanti Region comes second on the list with 1, 160 cases and the newly identified hotspot; Western Region came third with 395.
Per the statistics available on the GHS’ website, 60 per cent of the infected persons in the country are males, whereas the remaining 40 per cent, females.
