Standards are high for gospel musicians – Philipa Baafi on collapsed marriages

Gospel musician, Philipa Baafi, is worried about how gospel musicians are under a tighter scrutiny when it comes to matters relating to marriage.

According to her, there is pressure on gospel musicians to live in a certain way.

Wading into reports on collapse marriages of some gospel musicians, she says, “I don’t normally comment on such issues, especially if I don’t know the cause of the collapse of a marriage. But Ghanaians are too quick to judge when we don’t even have the facts.”

Gospel singers, Christiana Love and  Gifty Osei’s marriage to pastors collapsed after several years, the latest to join the list of struggling marriages is singer, Joyce Blessings, whose marriage is said to be on the rocks.

“What most people forget is that we are human, and we might make mistakes but Ghanaians expect the gospel musician to live in a certain way. Yes, we are gospel musicians but it’s just the grace of God sustaining us,”  she said in an interview with Graphic Showbiz.

The ‘ Nyame Honhon Sane’ singer asked Ghanaians to slow down on being judgmental and criticising when they do not have the full facts of the matter.

“I believe we should rather pray for gospel musicians whose marriages have failed. We are told to forgive 70×77 times, but how many of us are able to do that? We need the grace of God to stand firm because marriage is such a difficult task.

“Marriage itself is not an easy task, but it takes two people to make it work. With prayers and determination, God will surely make it work,” she added.

Philipa who has been off the  music scene for a while now returned with  her seven-track album titled ‘Awurade Fa Yen Sie.’
