10-year old wants his father jailed for life, court gave him 2 years for cutting his son’s ear with blade
The father who cut off his son’s right ear with a blade has been sentenced to two years imprisonment by the Weija Circuit Court.
The 55 year old father was charged with two counts of use of offensive weapon and causing harm contrary to sections 70 and 69 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960, (Act 29).
At the hearing of the case on May 19, 2020, Mumuni Osman pleaded guilty to both counts.
The presiding judge, Bernard Bentil convicted him on his own plea and sentenced him to two years imprisonment on each count.
The sentence is to run concurrently.
The judge prior to passing the sentence said the accused is a first-time offender and that, he had shown remorse, which he (the judge) felt through his demeanour.
He further stated that he wanted the punishment to serve as a deterrent to others.
The father accused his 10-year-old son of stealing his GH₵250. He cut off part of his son’s right ear and put the boy’s fingers in an open fire as his punishment for allegedly stealing the money.
On May 17, 2020, the mother of the boy reported her ex-husband who had custody of their son to the police over the assault. The incident occurred at Obuom-Domeabra.
The victim, who at the time of the report was in severe pain was taken to the Amanfro Polyclinic where he was treated and discharged.
In an interview he granted Accra based GhOne TV, the 10-year-old said his only wish was to see his father behind bars for the rest of his life.
He said after his father had cut off his ear, he threatened him not to cry else he would stab him to death.
“He threatened to stab me to death if I cried… I told the police to jail him for life. I want to see him imprisoned for life,” he said in the interview.
