The Accra High Court has sentenced 106 foreign nationals to prison for illegally entering Ghana, in a case that highlights the country’s enforcement of immigration laws.
Out of the total number, 55 individuals were handed 28-day prison sentences, while the remaining 51 were each sentenced to four weeks in prison.
All the accused persons pleaded guilty to the charges of illegal entry.
The court also ordered that after serving their prison terms, the convicts should be deported to their respective home countries.
The case dates back to October 25, 2025, when the accused first appeared before the court.
On March 12, 2026, they officially pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them.
Police investigations revealed that on October 7, 2025, intelligence reports indicated that more than 100 foreign nationals had been spotted around Kuntunse Satellite in Accra under suspicious circumstances.
Security officers who responded to the information found the individuals living in a house within the area.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly refused to provide their true identities, leading to their arrest.
They were later taken to the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters for further investigations.
Further checks showed that the accused persons were nationals of neighbouring francophone countries who entered Ghana between January and October 2025 without reporting to any Immigration Office or presenting travel documents.
