Freddie Blay granted GH₵800k bail

The Koforidua High Court has granted a GH₵800,000 bail to former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Freddie Blay, with two Accra-based sureties holding valid Ghana Cards.

This comes after he was earlier kept in custody by the Akropong Circuit Court over a dispute involving the alleged demolition of a building at Kitase.

He is expected to return to the circuit court on April 9, 2026, while investigations continue.

Mr. Blay was handed over to the Akropong Police after he was arrested in Accra on Monday, March 16, 2026, following a warrant issued for his arrest.

The case is about claims that he ordered the demolition of a house under construction on a piece of land at Kitase.

Police say the landowner reported the issue after Mr. Blay failed to respond to an invitation to assist with their investigations.

He was later charged, but did not appear in court in April 2025 as expected, which led to the issuance of the arrest warrant.

However, people close to Mr. Blay say he did not know about the warrant before his arrest. They explain that the land dispute goes back to a property he bought in 1994, which later became the subject of litigation.

They also insist that he did not order the demolition of the said building. Instead, they say he only asked for a bare piece of land to be cleared in January 2026 to rid it of snakes and other dangerous reptiles.
