Ghana to evacuates its citizens from Qatar

By

The Government of Ghana has announced plans to undertake an emergency evacuation exercise for its citizens living in Qatar following heightened security concerns in parts of the Middle East.

In a statement dated 15th March, 2026, the Embassy of the Republic of Ghana in Doha issued an immediate notice to Ghanaians residing in Qatar, informing them of the government’s decision to organize a voluntary evacuation back to Ghana. The embassy said the decision follows the evolving security situation in the region and is aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of Ghanaian nationals.

According to the statement, the exercise will be strictly a one-way evacuation to Ghana. This means individuals who choose to participate in the exercise will be transported from Qatar back to Ghana as a precautionary measure.

The embassy has therefore urged all Ghanaians currently living in Qatar who wish to be evacuated to re-confirm their interest by submitting the biodata page of their passports via email. The information should be sent to the embassy’s official email address before the stated deadline.

Officials indicated that the deadline for submission is Tuesday, 17th March, 2026. The embassy stressed that the confirmation process is necessary to enable authorities to properly compile a list of citizens interested in the evacuation and make the necessary logistical arrangements.

The notice also referenced an earlier communication issued on 6th March, 2026, suggesting that the government has been closely monitoring developments in the region before taking this precautionary step.

Ghana’s diplomatic mission in Qatar has assured citizens that further updates regarding the evacuation arrangements will be communicated once the confirmation process is completed. The move reflects Ghana’s commitment to protecting its nationals abroad during periods of heightened regional tension.
