Okyeame Kwame has revealed that two unusual dreams about singer Jah Lead inspired him to pursue a musical collaboration that eventually brought them together on his song “Big Up”.
The rapper said he dreamt about working with Jah Lead twice in the same week, despite not being someone who usually attaches significance to dreams.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM, Okyeame Kwame recounted that after the first dream on a Monday, he had another on Wednesday, prompting him to request Jah Lead’s phone number.
Although the number did not arrive immediately, an unexpected encounter at a basketball event at the University of Ghana changed things.
Okyeame Kwame said he attended the event where Jah Lead was scheduled to perform. After watching the singer’s performance, he approached him, introduced himself as a fan and praised his voice.
The experience strengthened his resolve to work with Jah Lead, whom he wanted to take a leading creative role in shaping the song.
Okyeame Kwame explained that he already had a song titled “Big Up” but imagined Jah Lead’s voice alongside Rengen on the chorus. He therefore wanted the singer to have creative freedom in developing that part of the record.
Although Okyeame Kwame said he does not usually believe in or remember his dreams, the two experiences and the timing of their eventual meeting left a strong impression on him.
