A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Legal Team, Enoch Afoakwa, says he has reported an alleged assault by an Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) officer to the police.
The complaint follows an attempted arrest of the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.
Mr Afoakwa said the alleged assault happened on Wednesday, September 23, when EOCO officials attempted to arrest the MP shortly after he had represented Salomey Awitty Baffoe at the High Court.
Speaking in an interview on September 26, Mr Afoakwa said he later lodged an official complaint with the police.
He said the police issued him with a medical form, which he took to a hospital for examination and medical attention.
“The lady punched me in my face. What did I do to have received that kind of a punch in my face? As a lawyer, I am looking at the options available but once the incident happened, I made an official complaint to the police.
“They have issued to me the police medical form and I have attended to the hospital for them to take care of me to observe and examine me. I will follow up and tender everything to the police and let the police decide what to do next.”
The attempted arrest of Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah on September 23 has since generated public discussion about the procedures law enforcement officers are expected to follow.
The incident happened after the MP appeared in court as legal counsel for Salomey Awitty Baffoe.
EOCO officials later sought to arrest him, resulting in a confrontation during which the attempted arrest was resisted.
